What is Hatha Yoga?
Hatha yoga, which means "yoga for health.  We practice to increase flexibility and calm the mind; relieving stress and much more. Western doctors and scientists are discovering the health benefits of yoga. Studies conducted abroad have shown that hatha yoga can relieve the symptoms of several common and potentially life-threathening illnesses, such as arthritis, arteriosclerosis, chronic fatigue, diabetes, asthma and obesity. Many believe it even fends off the ravages of old age.
  A near-perfect fitness routine, hatha yoga provides the means for people of any age not only to get and stay in shape, but also to develop balance, coordination, and a sense of centeredness. It renews, invigorates, and heals the body--stretching and toning the muscles, joints, and spine and  directing blood and oxygen to the internal organs. Thus leaving the body and mind rejuvenated and relaxed!


          The Healing Power of the Breath
One of the most helpful practises to improve our health and well-being is pranayama. (the breath). One particular pattern of breathing that helps us to strenghten the nervous system and calm anxiety is called the "Rising & Falling Breath"
How To Do It:  Lie on your back with your hands resting on your abdomen.  Tune in to your breath. On the inhalation, consciously expand your belly as it were a rising balloon.  Let your breath continue rising up through your rib cage and out to the sides; you should feel the top of your lungs fill with air and rise. Begin your exhalation at the top of the lungs, so as you release the air, your collarbones lower.  As the exhalation continues--the ribs & abdomin slowly lower.  The exhalation should be long & slow. While you breathe, keep your torso completely relaxed.  Now keep your focus on this pattern and feel the body relax and cleanse.
